Somebody said that somebody said,
Trouble was caused and suspicion was fed.
Somebody passed an idle word,
Someone repeated what someone had heard.
There has been many a broken heart,
Many marriages have come apart.
Many relationships have been changed,
Many neighbors become estranged.
In many homes where pleasure reigned,
Affection and loyalty have been strained.
And many lives are incomplete,
All because someone has been indiscreet.
Many a friendship has been wrecked,
Through gossip unfounded and unchecked.
Mischief was made and a rumor was spread
Because somebody said that somebody said.
